Where have you been?!?

Where have you been?!?

Just an update. I’m always busy and I’m not good at blogging on a regular basis!

My dissertation research finished last year and I’m finally wrapping up my dissertation. The implications look like practice makes perfect! Or, at least better than you were. More details later!

Dissertation Proposal

Dissertation Proposal

My research and dissertation plan is to create a transmedia book focused on 2D cutter and 3D fabrication tools. The content will be focused on the development of spatial reasoning skills and the use of artistic measures to provide students with the hands-on activities that will promote their development of spatial reasoning skills.

Some of my preliminary research leads me to believe that if we introduce children to spatial reasoning “thinking” that they will continue to see things in their life differently. This introduction to a three dimensional way of thinking can be the beginning of a new way of learning and new interests for them. I theorize that students who do have tendencies toward science, technology, engineering, and math careers may be the same ones who do not have developed spatial reasoning abilities.

Haiti Shapes Test for Spatial Reasoning Tool

Haiti Shapes Test for Spatial Reasoning Tool

The Haiti Shapes test has been created to provide a non-verbal method of testing spatial reasoning skills in children. It has been developed to provide a method of testing that does not depend on translation of instructions for those participants who speak a different language.

Funded by the National Science Foundation, Grant # 1030865.

CITRA Application Training

CITRA Application Training

Zimmerman, E. (2014) CITRA App Training. The Wells Foundation.

This app is used for children with communications barriers. It allows for consistent images to be used to communicate with the child for the parents, teachers, and therapists.

The app provides consistent communication images and even allows for a schedule with timer to be shared with the child. I created the instructions for this application using Articulate Storyline. The app is available on the iTunes store.

Introduction to Multimedia in Desire2Learn

I was given the opportunity to teach a face to face Introduction to Spreadsheets course for LSCO. The instructional designer there mentioned that they had an online Learning Management System and my ears perked up! During that semester I developed an online version of the course that I taught solely online the following semester. I was then offered the opportunity to develop an online Introduction to Multimedia course and since Multimedia is one of my favorite subjects, I jumped at the chance! I received the Lamar State College-Orange Award of Excellence in Distance Education for the course.
